the forge hardened sword blade,

slate when the words have been etched
so firm and so deep?

but time and overburden
will turn them into fossils.

could we overcome just by
asking different questions?

who – simple words that define
the problem and solutions.
Where should we look for
answers when we’re not even
sure of the question?

Look for the answers
in all the old internal
spaces. Questions be damned!
When seeking greatness,
is plain old hard work the key,
or is there something other?

seeking but from devotion
to something other.
How many snowflakes
does it take to warm a kid’s
heart and stop us cold?

bread disappears and hearts warm
days before the first flake flies!

Though the wise ones tell
us to be careful what we
ask for, we still need to ask.
When the winds of war
howl, will we be able to
hear the unforced call for peace?

peace is difficult enough
without sabers rattling.
Is there any hope
that spring’s coming warmth might
thaw this fury frozen globe?

Hope springs eternal
so may this Spring’s warmth extend
to human hearts and bring peace.

Alas, I’m fearing,
this frigid icy mass
is Dogma’s frozen wasteland.
Here in winter’s grip,
how can we expect blooming
of tender loving flowers?

Flowers bloom not from
expectation but from love
even in winter’s cold grip.
When cupid’s arrows
miss their mark, where should we turn
for satisfaction?

Return, perhaps, to
that reflection and therein
find a lovable target.
And those unseeing
souls, are they not expecting
adoration from others?

To see and be seen
is both a need and a gift
if we could but see.
