Sometimes in the midst
of an overly busy
day, peace thankfully descends.

And sometimes that peace
is suddenly shattered by
staccato shooting reports.
Sometimes in the midst

If we could peer past
differences, what might we see,
and what might we learn?
~
We might see the face
of divinity, and learn,
at long last, to live in peace.
Walking in the woods
always fosters inner peace.
Why is that the case?
~
Don’t ask me, ask that
bear. He just dined on several
walkers thus inclined.
When, at last, we find
that place in which we find peace,
must we ever venture out?
~
Tempting as it is
to settle in, we must take
our leave with the peace we found.
When the winds of war
howl, will we be able to
hear the unforced call for peace?
~
Heeding the call for
peace is difficult enough
without sabers rattling.
If we just follow
the faith deep within our hearts,
can we not find paths to peace?
~
Ah, but there’s the rub.
We must first find the time to
meet the faith that lies within.
Can seeking silence
yield a more stunning chorus
than reveling in music?
~
Contemplatives say
in seeking silence we may
find a music more sublime.
When Jesus, Buddha,
and Mohammad find common
ground, will we stand there?
~
“Can we stand there too?”
may be the question to ask.
Or, could we stand to BE there?
