When filled with regret
how can we create some space
for love to enter?
~
When your heart’s hard drive
fills with regret and hate,
delete those useless programs.
When filled with regret
how can we create some space
for love to enter?
~
When your heart’s hard drive
fills with regret and hate,
delete those useless programs.
Why must we wage wars,
attacking and defending
symbols we imbue with power?
~
Symbols are seen as
sacred or a threat when viewed
through amygdala’s blurred lens.
Why do we think we
can achieve long term goals
with short sighted plans?
~
Time is relative.
To a germ, all goals are long.
To the sun, all plans are short.
Why must weekdays seem
to travel life by freight train
while weekends ride the TGV?
~
Whether days move fast
or days move slow depends on
the load they carry.
Is there anything
more beautiful than a wise
and forgiving heart?
~
Perceiving beauty
takes an inward journey for
both beholder and beheld.
Since the road ahead
is shrouded in mystery,
Must we walk that road blindly?
~
Step by step we walk,
seeing only as far as
hearts and minds and eyes can see.
Why is it only
in retrospect that the path
we trod grows more clear?
~
The pathway behind
wears the marks of our passage
while the road ahead is clear.
Is it so shallow
to wait in gleeful hope
for that house of cards to fall?
~
We don’t have to plumb
the depths to hope for a house
built on lies to fall.
How to shine a light
so bright that the willfully
blind at last can see?
~
I fear that, in truth,
any light, sufficiently
bright, would do more harm than good.
What cosmic message
is conveyed by that turkey
strutting into the roadway?
~
Some think they hold cards
enough to trump those cosmic
messages and win the game.
What might the Source have
been thinking when families
came into being?
~
“As with every gem,
perfection should be most rare.
This can be your little flaw?”
When emotions run
unfettered through our hearts,
what might they find there?
~
One thing is certain –
what they won’t find there are thought,
balance, and moderation.
When emotion takes
over and reason takes flight,
are we in for love or war?
~
In both love and war
reason always surrenders
to emotion’s whip.
When, at last, we find
that place in which we find peace,
must we ever venture out?
~
Tempting as it is
to settle in, we must take
our leave with the peace we found.
When summer heat holds
us in its sweaty grasp, how
can we not lose our cool?
~
To retain our cool,
seek the shelter of shady
glades and shadowed pools.
When we have been booed
and hissed and pelted with fruit,
must the show go on, really?
~
Such a show of crass
disregard is certainly
a real show-stopper.
After the final
curtain call, when all clapping
ceases, what remains?
~
Why must we assume
there will be clapping when that
final, heavy, curtain falls?
When seeking pleasure,
will we set measured limits
or else embrace gluttony?
~
If we honor our
natural limits, we can take
our pleasure without measure.
If all work and no
play makes Jack a dull boy, what
does all play and no work make?
~
Summer vacation?
Excellent video games?
More superhero movies?
Why must we labor
on endlessly when, in truth,
life is but a dream?
~
If we row our boats
merrily we can sustain
both ourselves and dreams.
What must we do now
to ease our souls when now has
passed and then is here?
~
Some say all there is
is now, and all the rest is
just, simply, dreaming.
Once that veil is gone,
will we like that magic truth
or crave illusion?
~
If we remain true
to the magic we possess
the veil no longer conceals.
Can we find magic
when all that held us spellbound
has been swept away?
~
One finds true magic
only when all illusions
have been swept away!
Must we adapt to
a lesser lot in life while
greater kami make grand plans?
~
Those of great spirit
in whatever form always
live a lofty life.
When you consider
the difference one word can make,
why don’t politicians quake?
~
Narcissists all know
their meaning is crystal clear.
So why quibble about words?
And why act on fear
even though we all know
inaction is the way to go?
~
Fear can empower
us to act when inaction
could just be paralysis.
If we know but do
not act, does that mean we’re wise
or simply afraid?
~
If we do not act,
knowing it to be for naught,
it’s wisdom, otherwise, fear.
Did you detect it,
the barest little hinting
of sarcasm yesterday?
~
Such broad-brushed hints bring
a grin to the constant
war of who does more.
If time and tide wait
for no man, does this leave one
more thing for women to do?
~
And what, may I ask,
does not already reside
upon that long, self-made, list?
When considering,
the coming of tides rising,
will all our boats be lifted?
~
As tides continue
to rise, it might be better
to seek higher ground.
