Why must we labor
on endlessly when, in truth,
life is but a dream?

If we row our boats
merrily we can sustain
both ourselves and dreams.
When seeking greatness,
is plain old hard work the key,
or is there something other?

Greatness comes not from
seeking but from devotion
to something other.
Why do we hurry
through our days when we know night
will come soon enough?

Perhaps we distract
ourselves with endless motion
to avoid encroaching dark.
