Writers profit by
finding meaning and pleasure
in the words that come their way.
Tell me, my poet
friend, do you think folks mostly
do the best they can?

Good folk do their best,
but greedy folk make their buck
at the cost of all the rest.
What if money did
grow on trees – would we change our
currency to leaves?

Smarter people would
invest in groves; the greedy
would denude the whole forest.
How does one explain
to a Christian Congress what
“Love thy neighbor…” means?

No explanation
necessary. They know but
there’s no profit in caring.
