An old religion,
Marlin, Thompson, holy Colt.
Diabolic trinity.
~
This diabolic
trinity of firearms
has brought hell to earth.

Do you think Autumn’s
fire can consume Summer’s
shining lethargy?
~
Already Autumn mists
mute bright shining morning skies
harbingers of winter grey.
Oh we busy bees,
leading our so busy lives,
didn’t find the time to write
~
Out there having fun,
there’s sure something wrong with us,
playing, poems left undone!

Oh you! Camilla;
lending just a hint of spring
to all this autumn splendor!
~
Timely reminders
like these help us remember
that beauty has no season.
Are they trying to
get a tax bill passed before
there’s a grand awakening?
~
More likely they’re just
lining some pockets before
the grand inquisition starts.
Spread across the sky
Crimson and Auburn unite
in a peaceful harmony.
~
Things are possible
in the sky that can’t occur
on Alabama’s fine turf.
Where do you turn when
the season turns and you find
you’re no longer in?
~
You, as it turns out,
can turn into a pumpkin
or be left out in the cold.
How do we react
when asked the impossible
on an hourly basis?
~
When we find ourselves
in such places, they say we
can fight, flee, or freeze.
We’ve traveled so far
together – I wonder where
we will wander next?
~
Whither we wander
we will wander in wonder;
a wonderful world awaits.
Some may take offense
at all things outside the norm
but does their shock make them right.
~
Culture is maintained
by the norm but advanced by
what lies beyond it.
What beckons you on
these colorful days of Fall –
anything at all?
~
Today, a feather,
flotsam from some passing goose
seized upon my attention.
What if we saw we
were a part of the natural
world and not apart from it?
~
As John Muir once said,
most people are ON the world,
fewer are IN it!
Asleep at the switch
as the Mondo Train goes by
unnoticed by these poets!
~
But we awakened
in time to try our hands at
a belated rhyme.
Which was more surprised,
the cow that jumped or the moon
that got jumped over?
~
Smart money is on
Dish and Spoon’s shocked surprise
as they slog through divorce court!
Is there anything
healing as a full night’s sleep;
or am I just dreaming still?
~
Full night’s sleep retunes
body, mind, and soul and lets
us, for a time, make music.
Why not pause and take
a look at how we fill our
days with empty things?
~
Perhaps emptiness
allows us to refill fresh.
Nature abhors a vacuum.
Three crises in less
than twenty-four hours leaves
me speechless. Can you help out?
~
Words fail all of us
sometimes, but as a fellow
poet, I’ll lend some to you.
Do they want to hear
what’s in my heart or are they
just waiting for a chance to talk?
~
Heart felt words are most
unwelcome to those whose hearts
are frozen by greed and graft.
Autumn’s first frosting
leaves a bright lustrous rime
inspiring this rhyming
~
Autumn’s first frosting
inspires rhyme but could
also forebode slippery falls.
When sunny Fall days
call us to come out and play,
how can we say no?
~
Just as long as we
remember to wear a coat
since autumn sun gives scant warmth.
Ah! The dulcet tone
of shattering auto glass!
No good deed goes unpunished!
~
It’s no accident
that fate kindly intervened
and only glass was broken!
Without the guidance
of your teenage son, what
on earth will you become?
~
To hear him tell it,
I’m destined to end my days
wandering lost in a fog.
As I harken back
to my college search process,
it was not, at all, like this!
~
It must feel good to
know your son has more options
than you had back then.
Why do we look here
and there for happiness when
we could look inside instead?
~
Inner happiness,
somehow, seems less fulfilling
than outer validation.
Let us find beauty,
As unlikely as that seems,
Unto which, to turn our pen.
~
Slowly shifting clouds
against a darkening sky –
beauty comes knocking.
If we are willing
to open our eyes, can we
bear what we will see?
~
If we could stomach
All that open eyes beheld,
We would never have shut them.
Have truth and wisdom
followed faith and charity
into history’s dustbin?
~
Truth and wisdom, faith
and charity still reside
among us dust free.
So, let me get this
straight – groping and grabbing is
ok if you’re rightly aligned?
~
Groping and grabbing
is ok if you’re blind to
basic human dignity.
As the wind begins
to howl and rains to fall
dare we hope for some relief?
~
Here in Virginia
we can expect some relief
from untimely heat.
What if we spent as
much time noting simple joys
as we do dissatisfactions?
~
Noting simple joys
offers scant satisfaction
over dissatisfactions!
