Dogwoods and Sweet Haw
illuminate the woodlands
with startling dappled white.
~
Our eyes widen in
gratitude for them and all
the wonders of Spring.

Our eyes widen in
gratitude for them and all
the wonders of Spring.
Tiny flowers shine
in the sun, having
defied the first lawn mowing.
~
No kings to foil;
so potentilla settles
for confounding lawn mowers.
Poetry captures
all those things that pictures can’t
in less than a thousand words.
~
Photographers might
say that pictures are a form
of visual poetry.
A love of learning
is fine. Applying what’s learned
is even better.
~
Applying lessons
that are learned too easily
is often impossible.
Regarding flora,
Japanese Wisteria
in Bamboo screams invasive!
~
That’s double trouble
for sure, but why must they look
so good together?
It won’t be long til
the heat we longed for becomes
more than we asked for.
~
Perceptions of heat,
much like perceptions of cold,
are largely state dependent.
Startling fuchsia
Redbuds, contrasting sharply
beside chartreuse new spring leaves.
~
There’s a place for each
and each is distinctly its
quite colorful self.
If I could, I would
get off this rollercoaster
and drift on calm seas.
~
Do you crave demise?
This ride doesn’t stop until
entropy takes you!
Walking in the woods
on this balmy spring evening,
saddened by scattered debris.
~
Nature’s loveliness
marred by human carelessness –
a sad reminder…
Watching my dog sniff
the air and ground with eager
curiosity, I grin.
~
My grin is somewhat
bittersweet, given recent
inevitabilities.
Hosts of heathern hues,
vernal, vibrant and vital,
adorn all ambler’s acres.
~
Sauntering through such
a lively display of green –
a springtime bonus.
Time and distraction
can give us the distance
to see more clearly.
~
Everyone needs space
to find a clear perspective
amidst such obfuscation
I know; change is hard,
but there’s one old blogging dog
that taught this pup some new tricks!
~
This old blogging dog
was forced to learn new tricks
by an upstart pup.
Who knows what we’ll find
if we open our eyes and
set all assumptions aside?
~
Let’s assume WordPress
makes changes not just on whim
and embrace block editing.
Just like pulling teeth,
these needlessly dramatic,
circular conversations.
~
A drama a day
keeps facing unpleasant truths
at bay where it’s hoped they’ll stay.
Even though the truth
stares us in the face, we’ve learned
to rely on lies.
~
Truth’s hard to swallow
while lies slide down real easy
when you only talk the talk.
Here at the Drive-in,
yes, promise, they still exist,
watching vintage commercials!
~
This vintage mother
sits at home viewing Netflix,
no commercials, on tv.
As the years go by,
more and more lives are lost, but
many resist gun reform.
~
As the years went by
more and more lives were lost, but
many resisted seat belts.
A brief time away
can alter your perspective
And recharge your very soul.
~
When we leave behind
our familiar daily cares,
we often regenerate.
They gained the whole world
but did they also lose their
souls in the process?
~
From my perspective,
that seems like the deal they made.
Guess we’ll see how they profit.
Here we go again,
collecting numerous likes
on another empty page!
~
Wordless poems must
be all the rage and no work
is needed. You can’t beat that.
A Virginia spring
has a magic all its own –
medicine for tired souls
~
Now that spring has sprung,
Cicadas will soon emerge,
making us long for winter.
Velvety velour
somehow seems sandpapery
because of one bit of grit.
~
No matter how hard
we try, the grit seizes our
attention and won’t let go.
A tangerine sky-
promise of a juicy end
to a busy day?
~
Going farther west
that tangerine looks peachy
and rather more sfumato.
Beneath this downpour,
those dejected daffodils
hang their heads and cry
~
The morning brought change,
but to their dismay, what came
was not sun, but snow.
When racing against
clocks, it’s hard to make the time
to track each fleeting moment.
~
Racing against time
hardly seems worth the effort
since it has such a head start.
Active deception
builds a climate of mistrust
regardless of intentions.
~
It’s especially
hard to trust the sunniest
forecasts in such a climate.
Going somewhere slow
sure beats going nowhere fast
unless speed is all that counts.
~
Fools always rush in
where Angels are reluctant
to fly supersonicly.
Fairy lights dancing
in hues of purple and blue
through the distant misty woods.
~
You will trip the light
fantastic if you decide
to dance among them.
Often when we go
on a quest, we find something
much different than what we sought.
~
There’s no pot of gold
lurking rear the rainbow’s end,
but magic’s found in searching.
