for principles than people,

your naked face will show us.

looks forward – we need all three.

that to which he aspires –

one embodied by liars.

Does this rainy chill

Liars would have it so.

Some of us believe

what we want to believe, slant,

twist, and prune facts to that end.

Lately we’re singing,

“Where , oh where has caring gone

four long years passing?”

 A damned long sentence

this nation has had to pull

for the crime of apathy.

Rainy afternoons

fail to dampen the spirit;

same can’t be said of clothing.

  Gentle falling rain,

clothes dryers, and the lilting

 song of birds keep us serene.

What have we become

when reopening we ask ,

“What’s ‘acceptable loss’?

~

Are we willing to

lose our humanity for

a monetary profit?

A taste for privilege,

though easily acquired,

takes a lifetime to escape.

~

If one develops

also a taste for service,

there is no need to escape.

In this universe,

often what seems obvious,

is just a grand illusion.

~

So how do we pierce

the illusion of what seems

obvious and find what’s real?

The weather’s running

hot and cold, mirroring our

unstable genius in chief.

~

Whether he’s running

hot or cold largely depends

on the face in the mirror.

Our capacity

to tolerate suffering

may well be our undoing.

~

 Indifference 

and mistaken tolerance –

 betrayers of hearts and souls.

Is that woodpecker

just drumming his life away

or does he have mouths to feed?

~

Feeding family’s fine

but why can’t that peckerwood

peck somewhere that I can’t hear?

If you must go out

and choose not to wear a mask,

freedom trumps humanity.

~

 Bare-faced assertions

of freedom reveal who comes

first and who doesn’t matter.

We’re characters in

stories we will someday tell

about when everything changed.

So, who will portrait

me in the movie version

of this grim horror story?

Periodically

procrastination exacts

proverbial pounds of flesh.

Much like when we were

young and got so caught up in

play, we peed our pants

Infinite patience –

a strong requirement for

filling out government forms.

paperwork’s plenty tough too

and mostly pretty pointless.

Listen up, old friend,

People will believe

what they want to believe. Facts

are irrelevant.

Time is not all we

have on our hands; we also

have sanitizer.

If we abandon

social distancing too soon,

add the blood of innocents.

The unmasked, ungloved

ones say they love denial

and their freedumb most of all.

Some say to workers:

“Give me the economy

and I’ll give you death.”

your labor is essential.

Oops, I goofed again!

Should have taken sage advice

freely offered by the wise…

If we don’t want to

remain a goof, we first have

to acknowledge them.

for staying sane even though

insanity reigns?

a clue: yell ‘Ridiculus’;

imagine he’s a boggart.

Silence is golden

after days of endless noise.

It’s surprising what

talk of ultraviolet light
